SIREN TEST:

Scheduled Siren Test – 1st May 2024 at 11.00am (30 seconds)

Westland Milk Products will test its uncontrolled ammonia release siren at 11.00am.

The siren will go for approximately 30 seconds.

The public do not need to take any action – it is a test only and you are perfectly safe to go about your business.

Siren testing will be conducted on the first working day of every third month at 11.00am for 30 seconds (upcoming dates: 1st August 2024)


IN A REAL EVENT:

IF YOU HAVE HEARD WESTLAND MILK PRODUCTS' HOKITIKA AMMONIA ALARM (A LOUD CONTINUOUS TONE FOR 2 MINUTES), PLEASE TAKE THE FOLLOWING ACTION:

If you are in a property within 1 kilometer of Westland Milk Products’ Hokitika factory then “Shelter in Place”:

• Go inside immediately

• Shut all doors and windows, close curtains and blinds

• Turn OFF all air-conditioning

• Seal gaps around windows, doors and ventilation ducts

• Listen to your local radio station for information or check updates on this page

• Stay inside until the all-clear is given

 

If you’re outdoors within 1 kilometer of Westland Milk Products’ Hokitika factory and cannot get into a building then “Evacuate the area”:

• Quickly get upwind of the dairy factory

• Proceed to one of the safe area muster points: Westland High School or Kaniere School

• Do not go back into the 1 kilometre risk zone until you receive the official all-clear

- If you have been evacuated, do not attempt to re-enter the 1 kilometer risk zone to retrieve belongings or pets.

- Always follow the direction of emergency services.

- If you have asthma or any other health condition compromising your breathing we advise you to evacuate to one of the safe zones.

- If at any time you feel you are in danger dial 111 immediately.
