Westland awarded EcoVadis silver medal

Westland has been awarded a silver medal by internationally renowned corporate social responsibility auditor EcoVadis.

This is a major achievement for Westland with substantial advantages for customer retention and recruitment, and product marketing.

The silver medal status places Westland in the top 30% of companies that have completed the EcoVadis assessment. A number of our major customers and other major international companies have completed EcoVadis assessments including Nestle, Danone and FriesaCampia.

The assessment shows Westland has achieved a high level of compliance with various corporate social responsibility components such as environmental standards, health and safety, human resources and sustainable procurement.

Westland’s participation in the EcoVadis assessment arose from a growing international demand from many of our customers to have a holistic understanding of our corporate social responsibility position. These customers require us to have completed this type of audit so that they can, in turn, demonstrate to their customers that they meet sustainable procurement standards “The EcoVadis audit is an internationally accredited assessment that helps us evaluate our compliance with various global standards and, just as important, where we need to make improvements,” explained Environmental Manager Chris Pullen.

“The assessment is incredibly thorough. We can’t just claim we are meeting the requirements; we actually have to submit proof that we are doing what we say we are.”

This is the second year that Westland has submitted documentation for the assessment. Initially, Westland did not meet the level for medal status. So this year’s medal shows the huge improvements made during the past year. EcoVadis compliance will become an annual assessment for Westland with the aim of improving year after year. We have been given a great challenge to perform even better and aim for the high standard the gold medal. This will be a tough ask – but will be worth it.

“I am absolutely thrilled about Westland achieving the silver medal status in this stringent assessment programme,” said Chief Executive Toni Brendish. “This award shows our ongoing commitment to producing a high quality products from not only Westland staff members but our Shareholders and Suppliers. The whole essence of the programme is that we meet these global standards from on-farm to on-shelf. I want to thank you all.”
