Ireland Cain – West Coast Top of the South Regional Dairy Trainee 2022-2023

What inspired you to start a career in dairy farming.

Dairy farming has always been part of my life. As a kid, I spent a lot of time on my grandparents’ farm, so it was something I naturally came back to. In 2022, inspired by my employers who won Share Farmer of the Year in 2021, I entered the awards. I was awarded the Emerging Talent Award and re-entered in 2023, winning Dairy Trainee of the Year.

What does winning mean to you?

Winning this award showed me that I can achieve anything with passion and hard work. I’m grateful for the support of my employers, who are incredible role models.

“Five-star karaoke in the cowshed!”
